Education

Argentina: Education

Education from pre-school to university level is available free of charge. Education is officially compulsory for all children at primary level, between the ages of six and 14 years. Secondary education lasts for between five and six years, depending on the type of course. In 2013/14, according to UNESCO estimates, pre-primary enrolment included 72% of children in the relevant age-group, while the comparable ratio for primary enrolment was 99%. Secondary enrolment in the same year included 88% of students in the relevant age-group. Non-university higher education, usually leading to a teaching qualification, is for three or four years, while university courses last for four years or more. Expenditure on education constituted 14.7% of total government expenditure in 2014.
